Professional Development Funding

Interested in learning more about the funding available for professional development?

Professional Development is an activity which improves a person’s professional knowledge, competence, skill, and effectiveness.

As part of HDEAAs Collective Agreement, HDEAA has access to a Professional Development Fund which may be used to support HDEAA member access to PD as a group or individually.

  • Most group activities are run on HDSB PD Days or through HDEAA.
  • Personal PD funding is available from HDEAA.

Funding requires contacting the HDEAA president before committing to the opportunity as it will be assessed for eligibility based on the explanation of the PD and why it is valuable to you as an Educational Assistant.


  1. Full-time and part-time Permanent Contract members and LTO members may be approved up to a Maximum $125.00 per year for pre-approved professional development, on a first come first served basis. There may only be one request per member a year regardless of the amount.
  1. If you would like to attend a workshop, seminar etc., you are required to FIRST contact the HDEAA office before you register and receive approval from the HDEAA President. You will need to provide the date/location/cost/and description of the workshop. A minimum of 3 weeks notice is required to obtain approval.
  1. When approved by the President, you will receive the SMART FIND Project Code from HR.
  1. You must pay for the event up front, and have an official receipt issued.
  1. Once you have attended the event, complete the Statement of Expenses - CTR 11
  1. Send the completed, signed Statement of Expenses - CTR 11 and the receipt to the HDEAA office - 3425 Harvester Rd, Suite 100, Burlington ON L7N 3N1 to the attention of Kezia Motluk - President
  2. The receipt and the Statement of Expenses - CTR 11 will require the President's signature. The form and receipt will be forwarded to the HDSB for payment. Payment usually takes approximately 4-6 weeks.
